Specialized Socialization at The Board Hound is a great way for your dog to experience daycare, or specific aspects of daycare, on a smaller scale. This 1-hour training option is great for dogs and puppies in need of confidence-building, counter-conditioning, or desensitization before beginning regular daycare or boarding with us. This is also an excellent opportunity for social adult dogs that are overstimulated in the daycare environment and or need to work on isolation training in our facility. Depending on your goals for Specialized Socialization, this service can be accommodated as a drop-off, or owners can be present for the session. Our team of behavior specialists will be able to give specific recommendations for frequency and duration with each Specialized Socialization plan.
For Puppies under 6-months old:
Specialized Socialization can be a great resource for any puppy to aid in their social development by setting them on the right path early. If your puppy is overwhelmed, nervous, or just needs a little help navigating the world, Specialized Socialization can be supplemented with Puppy Party and Puppy Kindergarten services, or as a standalone socialization plan to set up your puppy for success.
For Adolescent & Adult Dogs over 6-months old:
Many of our Specialized Socialization students are socially-appropriate adult dogs with behavioral concerns that limits their eligibility for daycare. This may include social dogs that have aged out of daycare, dogs that are overstimulated by the daycare environment, or dogs with severe anxiety and fear. By implementing a counter-conditioning and desensitization plan for your dog, we may be able to make progress toward safe daycare and boarding participation.
Trainer-Lead Specialized Socialization Session: $60 per hour

At The Board Hound, our daycare was established to enrich the lives of the dogs in our community through healthy outlets for play and socialization. Our smaller play groups come with individual care and attention, while providing a low-stress, safe, daycare environment at our location in Alexandria, Virginia. Since safety is our first priority, we start with providing a high staff to dog ratio of about 1 to 10. This personalization ensures that your dog is always closely monitored.
