Registration is RESTRICTED for STEPP Daycare and Enrichment Boarding evaluations.
We are currently accepting waitlist registration for puppies, adolescents, and adult dogs. Applications will be reviewed and accepted on a case-by-case basis.
About Our Boarding Evaluation
To uphold the highest safety standards possible, all our boarding dogs are required to successfully complete our Daycare & Boarding evaluation at our Shirlington location. The evaluation is very important for the well-being of your dog, our staff, and all other dogs in our facility. During the evaluation, all our new dogs participate in daycare, exploration walks, brain games, and other activities throughout their day. This process gives us the opportunity to get to know your dog, and for your dog to get to know us, while enjoying the day’s activities. We will introduce your dog to our overnight suites so they become familiar and comfortable with the overnight accommodations as well.
During the evaluation (9am-1pm) we are able to establish a behavior profile for your dog. This profile is used to determine daycare preferences, exploration walk preferences, and to begin creating the best schedule and activities for your dog. The primary focus for the evaluation is to ensure that our boarding environment will be enjoyable and safe.
We understand that a dog’s behavior is always evolving throughout their lives. As a dog’s preferences change, we are able to adjust their personalized plan for boarding to accommodate those normal behavior changes. It is important to note that daycare preferences will change for every dog over their lifetime. We will always make activity selections that are enjoyable and safe for each dog.
Once your dog has completed and passed a Daycare & Boarding evaluation, boarding reservations can be scheduled as needed. If your dog has not visited our facility in over 6 months, please schedule a daycare visit prior to requesting boarding dates.

At The Board Hound, our daycare was established to enrich the lives of the dogs in our community through healthy outlets for play and socialization. Our smaller play groups come with individual care and attention, while providing a low-stress, safe, daycare environment at our location in Alexandria, Virginia. Since safety is our first priority, we start with providing a high staff to dog ratio of about 1 to 10. This personalization ensures that your dog is always closely monitored.
