Our Dog Training Philosophy
The Board Hound’s training philosophy relies on science-based, force-free and fear-free training methods. Our training methods use pleasant forms of motivation to teach your dog new behaviors. All our training methods are supported by the ASVAB, APDT, AKC, CCPDT, and Humane Society of the United States. Motivators can vary between dogs, but are generally focused on food, affection, and play to reward and reinforce behavior.
We are passionate about improving the relationships between dogs and their owners by building trust and making the training experience enjoyable for everyone. We will never use methods involving pain, fear, or force.
The Board Hound is dedicated to providing affordable dog training solutions to best fit a variety of training goals. We understand that every dog has unique needs, and owners may have differing goals for their pup. Our responsibility is to start your dog’s personalized plan on the right path.
At The Board Hound, our daycare was established to enrich the lives of the dogs in our community through healthy outlets for play and socialization. Our smaller play groups come with individual care and attention, while providing a low-stress, safe, daycare environment at our location in Alexandria, Virginia. Since safety is our first priority, we start with providing a high staff to dog ratio of about 1 to 10. This personalization ensures that your dog is always closely monitored.
